SEPA Supports Prospective Engineers

An event, bringing together the packaging industry’s representatives, was held by the Rigid Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association (SEPA) at Divan Istanbul Hotel on Tuesday, 17 January 2017. Emre Gönen, a lecturer at the International Relations Department of Bilgi University, also attended the event as a guest speaker. At the gathering, it was announced that students who will participate in the Robotics Competition which will be held for high-school students in Houston, the U.S.A, on 19-22 April, will be sponsored by SEPA.

At the event, where SEPA members and the packaging industry’s representatives came together, Emre Gönen, a lecturer at the International Relations Department of Bilgi University, delivered a speech, titled ”Turkey’s Foreign Relations in 2017”. Highlighting the geopolitical importance of Turkey and stating that the EU has made decisions to improve its economic relations with Turkey, Gönen said, “Although we observe interruptions occurring on the political front of the process, the European Commission asked the Council for a mandate to modernise the EU-Turkey Customs Union. We will thus be able to build a platform where day-to-day challenges encountered in commerce can be discussed.” Commenting that, although the Internet has paved the way for people to access unlimited amounts of information. More education is needed to ensure that information is used properly, Gönen added, ”One might get crushed under the load of such huge amounts of information. You occasionally get some 4 million results when you search for something on the Internet. Even if we assume that 90% of those results are rubbish, you still need a refined educational background to be able to analyse the rest of the results.”

About FIRST Robotics Competition ;

Following the speeches, a team of students from the IsTech Robotics Society of İstek Bilge Kağan Schools, who will participate in the 2017 edition of FIRST Robotics Competition, presented their projects to the industry’s representatives present. Founded in 1989 and organizing competitions to motivate young people to develop projects in science and technology, FIRST aims to inspire students in these areas. The 2017 edition of FIRST Robotics Competition is planned to take place in Houston, the U.S.A, on 19-22 April. Giving a speech just after the presentation, SEPA Chairman Osman Acun said, “SEPA will be pleased to be the transportation sponsor of the students to help them participate in FIRST Robotics Competition.” For more information about the competition, please visit www.firstinspires.org.
